Local Historical Research

The library and archives contain a wealth of historical documentation on regional historical subjects. Secondary library sources include reference books, thesis and dissertations, newspapers, plat maps and specialty microfilm. The reference collection is particularly strong on mining, labor, ethnicity and genealogy. The Center accepts thesis, dissertations, local history publications and family histories with a Minnesota connection.

The archives collects and stores original manuscript materials and government records related to Minnesota's Iron Ranges. These records are used primarily for community and genealogical research.

The Research Library has more than 1,200 titles of reference books and periodicals specializing in mining; logging; ethnicity; labor; and local, regional, and state history.
